Suitable for: BASP Members only. Ski patrollers, back country skiers who like to go off the piste or 'over the back' at Nevis Range
Course Overview: Level 1 Avalanche training for BASP members; this course will fulfill the first 4 sections for the Avalanche modules in the Ski Patrol Log book. By the end of the course you will be able to :
. Read and interpret the SAIS Avalanche forecast
. Understand the basics of avalanches and their causes
. Know the pre depart steps required to plan and carry out a safe ski/mountain trip
. Identify warning signs of danger during a trip
. Make avalanche avoidance the top consideration and avoid “groupthink” and familiarity traps
. Carry out a rapid companion rescue if it all goes badly wrong
- Ski Patrol Training for 2017-2018: 5 days in total (3 Days at Glenmore Lodge & a weekend at a Resort in the ski season)
- Slope Patrol Training - 3 days
