Ski Patrol is at the heart of BASP. Renowned throughout the world for their professionalism and hard work, often in adverse conditions and high risk areas ski patrollers manage mountain safety, deal with incidents and manage casualties including treatment and rescue. With national and international contacts BASP is well placed and the only independent provider to train patrollers in current and best practice.
We train and grade ski patrollers in the UK and have strong links with the International FIPS patrolling nations. www.fips-skipatrol.org
Ski Patrolling in Scotland is at the five ski areas, Glenshee, Glencoe, Nevis Range, Cairngorm and Lecht,. The skiing is mainly downhill skiing, however there is some cross country skiing when the snow level permits, and there is enormous scope for ski mountaineering and off piste skiing, however this is not patrolled. The ski season normally runs from early December to the end of April and possibly into May.
