First Aid at Work (3 days)

The content will include: understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider; incident management; unresponsive casualties, recovery position, seizures; choking, drowning; external bleeding, shock; minor injuries; secondary survey; injuries to bones, muscles and joints (fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains); head and spinal injuries, chest injuries, burns; eye injuries; poisoning (bites & stings); anaphylaxis, and suspected major illness (heart attack, use of AED, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes); cold injuries including hypothermia, hyperthermia; other outdoor environmental hazards; first aid kits and recording accidents.

Please note this course requires a certain amount of physical activity and candidates will need to demonstrate CPR techniques from the floor in a group environment. Assessments include practical scenarios on a continuous assessment basis and a multiple choice questionnaire. Please contact us before the course if any candidates have any special needs, or concerns regarding the assessment process.

The content is per HSE agreed guidelines. BASP have been delivering these new version of the FAW courses since April 2013. This is a Nationally recommended qualification in First Aid at Work with additional training relevant to the outdoors and more remote environment. Resuscitation Council Guidelines will be taught along with any new and relevant information.

Pre-Requisites

We train candidates to be safe, confident responders - No previous first aid experience required.

Suitable for

Those working in industry or outdoor education that require this certification for work purposes - the course will be tailored to your work environment. HSE recomend that you refresh your first aid skills annually. We recommend attending a First Aid at Work Refresher (1 day) course.

Certificate valid

Successful candidates are issued with a BASP certificate valid for 3 years. You can revalidate this qualification by attending a First Aid at Work Revalidation (2 day) course.
