The leading Level 3 Prehospital care qualification, Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF).
Equipping first responders with essential life saving skills, exceeding HSE first aid requirements, it forms the first step of a progressive suite of prehospital care qualifications.
You will fulfil the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at level D, gaining the knowledge and practical skills needed to deal with a range of prehospital emergency care situations.
Canidates must be aged 18 or older to attend this course.

Payment: Full payment will be required 6 weeks before the first day of the course.
This course requires a minimum of 18 hours pre-course directed learning.
The actual course is 37 hours/5 days.

- Operational readiness and human factors
- Emergency services capabilities
- Structured patient assessment
- Mechanism of injury and incident
- Life threatening bleeding control
- Airway management and emergency oxygen
- Breathing difficulties (trauma and medical)
- Prehospital trauma care
- Prehospital emergency care
- Responding to changes in risk and/or threat
- Primary triage (Ten Second Triage) and life saving interventions
- Moving and handling: in an emergency and assisting a clinician
- Recording assessment findings
- Environmental exposure
- Immersion and submersion incidents
- Adult, child and infant BLS and AED usage
Assessment Methods:
- 6 x practical assessments/skills tests
- 3 x theory assessments (multiple choice question papers)
- 1 x invigilated exam

Pre-requisites
There are none but compared to a 3 Day FAW (First Aid at Work) Course, the FREC3 Course is a more advanced level – previous first aid experience or training is highly recommended before completing the FREC3 qualification.
Who is it suitable for?
The qualification is the perfect fit for individuals looking to work or volunteer as a first responder. It is also suitable for emergency services, security personnel, those providing medical cover at events, and those working in high risk environments including the military, power stations, offshore, agriculture and manufacturing.
Certification
A FREC 3 (First Response Emergency Care Level 3) certification is valid for three years. To maintain the qualification, individuals must complete a FREC 3 requalification course before the expiry date (3 days/21 hours). This ensures that first responders stay up-to-date with the latest practices and protocols.
